Advice for IB Candidates

1. Take your time.
2. Do not get behind or wait until the last minute
3. Be sure  to include many vocabulary terms in your pages
4. Make sure that you have a wide array of pages, not just planning pages or research pages etc. so you don't have to cram in many that you don't have enough of. Do the pages you do in class in class; don't think that you will just finish it at home.
5. Make sure you have a cultural focus
6. Be open to all new ideas and mediums
7. Don't worry about the outcome- just do it.
8.  Need an idea? Brainstorm with your peers.
9. Find an artist and try out his style
10. Don't forget to have fun!

This is my very first painting. I completed this piece as a freshman in Art Foundations.
And this is my most recent painting.

I think I have grown quite a bit between then and now. Now I can blend colors, have better and more meaningful ideas, and have improved mechanically as well. IB has opened my mind to my own style and ability to research and explore cultures and the art styles associated with them, and I would still be at my freshman level with out this class.

Me In Three

Me in Three:
Compleated: 11/3/09    Size: 18x24
This painting was one of the first that I have done, yet I think
that it is one of the best. The wrench is becasue I love crew, the reed
because I love the bassoon, and the marching hat because, even though
I do not like it, marching band is a huge part of my life and culture. I think
that the colors are blended very well and I did a pretty good job at painting
the shiny things. Much better than the last painting.

Empathy

 Empathy:
Compleated: 4/5/2010        Size: 18x24
This painting is tied to the prints that I made based on the Guatemalan culture. As I will explain when I put up the linocut prints, the Guatemalan people bond with music as it is the center of traditions in their culture. I think it is missing something. In between this and the last painting I think I have improved greatly. It is also acrylic.

Ingredients

Ingredients:
Compleated: 1/3/10 Size: 18x24
I really like the background of this painting. This where I started
to get better at blending colors. The cookies are really bad; I could probably go in and fix them. They just look messy. I thought that gingerbread would be really easy! It was very very hard. I could not get the textures right either. This is acrylic paint.

No Place Like Home

No Place Like Home:
   Completed:  5/1/2010      Size: 18x24
The assignment was to paint our shoes, and at first I
wanted to paint my neon green converse because
I think that they are awesome, but everybody
decided to paint converse so I decided not to.  In looking
at my culture I discovered that crew is a major part of my culture
and I absolutely love it so I decided to paint the shoes in the
boat. I started painting them and realized that all the colors
were dark and gray in the picture, which are the actual colors
of the shoes, and I wanted them to show how awesome crew is,
how happy I feel when I row, and how much fun it is so I made them
rainbow. This is by far my favorite piece, though I could fix many things about it.It is acrylic paint.
